SCR WOOS PRIVATE HAND FOR FREIGHT TERMINALS

Hyderabad jul 14:The South Central Railway(SCR) is scouting for companies to set up brown field or green field private freight terminal(PFT) projects .In this regard , it is expected to sign an agreement with Continental Multimode logistics Park limited , a joint venture between fertilizer manufacturing cooperative society Kribhco and NDR group of companies, very soon.

“We have received a proposal from Continental Multimodel Logistics Park limited to set up a brown field PFT at Timmapur.Besides , we are also looking at setting up another PFT at Nagulapally with container Corporation(Concor), which is also likely to materialize ,”Sunil K Agarwal, chief operations manager SCR, said.

The Indian Railways had in 2010 announced a policy for developing PFTs seeking investments from private participants .The objective of the policy was enable rapid development of freight handling-terminal networks and enhance share of the private sector in over all freight-transport chain.Once the Timmapur PFT becomes operational,SCR expects more private participants to pitch in .Agarwal said that a private participant was typically required to invest Rs 8 crore in a PFT.
Mean while, SCR has set a target of 1,000 lakh tones of loading .The south-central region recorded an all time record loading of 962 lakh tone during the 2010-11.SCR,which garners about 70%of its revenues from freight operations, reported freight earning of Rs1,347 crore of the total earnings of Rs1,916 crore for thr first quarter of 2011-12,SCR achieved freight loading of 24.73 million tone as against 22 million tone during the same time last year.

The region is targeting to achieve freight-loading of 106 million tones this financial year, compared to 96 million tones last year.
